Tajimi City in Gifu is the historic epicentre of the Japanese tile industry. During her 2024 Atelier Flex residency in Japan, Caviezel collaborated with Tajimi Custom Tiles whose tiles reflect aspects of traditional Japanese pottery with unique textures, colours and surfaces that feature intentional irregularities. Caviezel began her surface designs with a brush, but the tiles she exhibited at Clear Gallery Tokyo were designed by pouring glaze onto a tile with one hand as she moved the tile with her other hand. The resulting fluid designs reflect Japanese wabi-sabi and echo the poured glaze ladle technique of Shoji Hamada.
