Inspired by Atelier Pfister's invitation to undertake a research and development trip to Turkey, the Surava collection preserves the beauty and structural integrity of original, vintage rugs while updating colours and patterns for contemporary interiors. Caviezel selected her collection from vintage hand knotted wool Anatolian rugs, then upcycled these rugs with overdyes and new designs. The original classic Persian designs become pentimenti beneath new dyes, while the removal of knots and insertion of new knots allow her patterns to emerge. Patterns include Caviezel's floral outlines reminiscent of children's chalk drawings on pavements, geometric patterns, and the inspiring English phrase Today is a good day. The collection represents a unique and sustainable merger between old and new.
