Handprinted textile panels

Caviezel's designs are imbued with stories created by her collaborations with artisans, manufacturers, and her young daughter. Four works in Caviezel's Museum für Gestaltung exhibition Caleidoscope were designed in collaboration with Mitlödi Textildruck before the manufacturer closed at the end of 2023. Mitlödi was located in the Canton of Glarus, Switzerland. Famed for its textile manufacturers whose history dates to 1740, Glarus's “storey towers” (Hängetürme) allowed textile manufacturers to hang long panels from tower eaves to dry in the mountain air. The word “story” is a homophone with the architectural term “storey”. These twinned words – story and storey – unite to symbolise Caviezel's collaboration with Mitlödi. In 2023 she spent a day with Mitlödi's experts pouring and daubing colour onto flat silk screens in rotation. The result was four designs that possess a look, a feeling and a story that are unique to other prints in her exhibition. Fotos © Anita Affentranger
