Caviezel spent three days at Takeshi Nakajima's studio in Kyoto where she experienced the art of Hikizome as part of her 2024 Atelier Flex residency in Japan. Nakajima specialises in a contemporary version of Hikizome with bold graphics that harmonise with Caviezel's strong graphic aesthetic. Lengths of fabric are stretched and suspended at waist height and held taut with bamboo rods. A wide brush is used to spread cold dye. Imperceptible movement of the fabric combined with brush strokes create magical choreographed designs that dance across the fabric. Examples of their collaboration were exhibited at Caviezel's Clear Gallery exhibition in Tokyo in 2024.
