The artisan textile manufacturers of St. Gallen, Switzerland have a long-standing relationship with global haute couturiers. Michele Obama as First Lady of the United States wore St. Gallen guipure lace at the 2009 Presidential inauguration, and in 2011 an international haute couturier chose Claudia Caviezel's Carpet silk chiffon fabric for a gown worn by Michelle Obama at official events in 2012 and 2013. Inspired by historic carpet fragments in the St Gall Textile Museum, Caviezel designed Carpet for St Gallen-based Jakob Schlaepfer, a company that has enriched the world with beautiful fabrics for more than a century.
